Ad Hoc Records reissues Joaquín Cornejo’s ‘Morning Eyes’ alongside meticulous rework from label mainstay Hermanito.

Cornejo has previously enjoyed support across BBC radio (Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Kolsch) and press (DJ Mag, XLR8R and Les Yeux Orange). Now, Morning Eyes, taken from the Ecuadorian producer’s 2018 ‘El Viaje’ EP, (originally released by KONN Recordings, Chile) receives Hermanito’s deft digi-folk touch.

Cornejo’s meditative and progressively minimalist original is lovingly reconstituted over a spiky broken beat, Hermanito using shards of glassy percussion to tease the whipsmart, unpredictable Hyde from Cornejo’s calming and benign Jekyll.

“After I released Joaquín’s remix of Hermanito’s ‘Romance’ in 2019, I delved into his back catalogue. I was a huge fan of his ‘El Viaje’ EP, so I’m over the moon to have Hermanito remix ‘Morning Eyes’ in a way that is a completely different sound - not just compared to the original track but also from Matt’s previously released productions.” Dave, Ad Hoc Records

This is a remix that retains and rejects its origin: enjoy shades of Lone, Pearson Sound, Four Tet and the simmering broodiness of Maribou State.
