about

Calling on disparate musical influences is nothing new. Yet on Ensemble, Nymad knits his roots
to craft a dreamlike soundscape with bite. Garage, breakbeat techno and trip-hop are in turn
selected, dissected and then recast to form a carousel of intermittent clamour and calm. Beyond the breaks, there’s shades of Bonobo, Reich and Burial - adding maturity and artistic depth to this artist’s uniquely tapestried sound.

SUPPORT FROM: Severino (Horse Meat Disco), Will Tramp, Gina Breeze (Homoelectric), Phil Cooper (Worldwide FM) + more

Intro
Although short, intro serves to set the tone for what’s to come. Across just over a minute and a half, this sonic blurb blooms - it’s the sound of the sun appearing from behind gloomy clouds. Relax and unwind, its maker says: I’m in control.
Ticklish
A deceptive simplicity holds Ticklish together, with pure synths sounding a heavenly chorus just out of reach. Prickly percussion chips away at Nymad’s poised harmonics, tickling the arrangement into an ethereal state. Although simple, Ticklish is never boring - it’s itching to be heard.
Fog Lane Park
An unabashed homage to UKG, Fog Lane Park is a genre connoisseur’s blend. Nymad’s rippling melodies and blurred harmonics are expertly sliced by the resolute groove beneath - percussive tones working in sync with weighty synths, crafting the perfect line between old and new.
Saturn
Shades of Four Tet run through Saturn - with a mix of foreboding beats, exotic live samples and techno-like synths, Nymad shows his hand as a late-night leader in the darker side of electronica. Saturn shows intent, drive and determination where previous tracks have stood still to bask in the moment.
Cadence
Ending how it began, Cadence takes elements from its tracklist predecessors to showcase Nymad’s distinctive aesthetic. Oscillating synths remain tethered to reality by his carefully curated beats - making for a disarmingly meditative experience. Cadence disappears in the blink of an eye, leaving you wondering just how you got here - and where to go next.

THANK YOUS:
Dave: I was blown away when I first heard Jose’s music . I instantly felt that, whilst it was quite different to what Ad Hoc had put out before, we had to release it. Thanks to Brad for introducing me the School of Electronic Music, where I have not only learnt a lot about the industry, but more importantly discovered many talented producers (including Jose). Thanks to all the SEM staff, especially Lucy and Tony. Thanks to Fabian for the artwork to Alice for her copy. And thanks to Jose for letting me release his beautiful music to the world!

Jose: I’d like to thank everybody in the MCR techno collective, everyone at Eastern Bloc Records, everyone at SEM, and my close family. It’s with all of your support that I’ve found the energy to keep making music, and it’s dedicated to all of you. A big thank you to everyone at Ad Hoc: Dave for giving me the opportunity to share my music, Fabian for the artwork, and Alice for her kind words. Gracias.
